Tenshin Okakura, a founder of Nihon Bijutsu-in (the Art Institute of Japan),
built his residence and Rokkakudo (Hexagonal Hall) at Izura in 1905 and the next year,
called his pupils – Taikan Yokoyama, Kanzan Shimomura, Shunso Hishida, Buzan Kimura to join him in Izura.
They moved in and started creative activities.

In rooms with a view of the deep sea lit with sunrise and moonlight
Please enjoy the relaxing atmosphere
While gazing at the ocean lit with the morning sun or the moon, our guests would sense Taikan’s desire to paint. Looking down at the Pacific from the wide windows, the scenery of Rokkakudo, white waves rolling into an inlet and pine trees make you recollect masterpiece paintings.

Taikan Bath gives you time for your inner peace
looking at the shining ocean by the sunrise or the floating fishing lights from the boats in the sunset glow. Please enjoy the scenery of Izura which the predecessors of Japanese modern art loved from the open-air bath. Our bath has a good reputation as an open-air bath with an ocean view.
